How to Register to Vote in India & Registration Process

If you are an 18 year old that means you are citizen of India. Then why you are waiting to register your name in the voter list? There is no need to go to election commission instead you can do it through online. It’s not just the political parties that need to be prepared, but also the citizens who are eligible to vote using their fundamental right for the future of their country. Participating in the democratic process is a fundamental right of every Indian citizen and ensures that you have a say in how India is governed.

How to Register to Vote in India & Registration Process

You can enroll as a voter if you are.

• An Indian citizen
• A resident of the part/polling area of the constituency where you want to be enrolled are not disqualified to be enrolled as an elector.

Documents required

  • ID Proof:

You need to submit any government recognized photo identification proof includes a passport, Driving License, pan card, student identification card, etc.

  • Address Proof:

You need to submit proof of residence if you are lived in that address for at least 6 months like Bank or post office current passbook, Ration card, Passport, Driving license, etc. If documents, as mentioned above, are not in your name but are in your landlord’s name then in that case he or she can sign an affidavit stating that you stay at the mentioned address. If address proof that you are giving is in your family member’s name then it is necessary to prove the relationship, for this a birth certificate is required to prove a relationship to your parents and a marriage certificate if the address is registered to your spouse’s name.

      •  Age Proof: 

If you are between the ages of 18- 22, you need to submit age verification. Birth certificate issued by Municipal Authority or district office of the Birth certificate from the school (Govt. / Recognised) last attended by the applicant or any other recognized educational institution. If a person is class 10 pass (or above), he should give a copy of the mark sheet of class 10, if it contains a date of birth as a proof of the date of birth. Mark sheet of class 8 or class 5 if it contains the date of birth.

So be a citizen of India and contribute your valuable 10 minutes for the registration of your name in voter list through indiatoday.in website. Visit https://electoralsearch.in/ to see if you are registered to vote. If your name appears on the list, you are eligible to vote; otherwise, you need to register to vote.  Visit https://www.nvsp.in/  for voter registration.
